9/11 Stair Climb Memorial Challenge
The 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb Challenge is a tribute event that honors the bravery and sacrifice of the 498 first responders who risked and lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
Participants climb the equivalent of 110 stories—the height of the World Trade Center towers—to symbolically complete the heroic journey of the firefighters, police officers, and emergency personnel who selflessly ascended the towers in order to save others. This challenge also aims to cultivate the spirit of unity, resilience, and mutual support that was evident in our communities following the attacks. |
Location: James H. Gray Civic Center - 100 W Oglethorpe Blvd, Albany, GA 31701 - Michelob Gate (East / Left side)
Time: 5:15 AM - The event will conclude around 6:45 AM but participants may finish sooner
Challenge: Ascend the steps 60 times (2100 steps, 110 stories) in 90 minutes - Going down doesn't count!
Rucking Modification: Participants of the Stair Climb Memorial Challenge may opt to wear weight vests or ruck sacks to simulate the weight of the gear that many first responders wore, which was as much as 45 pounds. Be careful though! Know your limits.
